The exterior was meticulously finished: sanded through to 400 grit, sealed with a shellac sanding sealer, treated with a microfine sanding paste, and finally buffed to a smooth, low-luster sheen that highlights the spalting and natural figure while offering a tactile, refined surface.

The vase if made from a neighbor’s maple tree that was hit by lighting in 2022 and had to be taken down. The tree was nearly 40 years old and provided many years of shade.
